Psychic Kitty In South Kingstown Aims To Keep Pets Healthy

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. -- There's a new holistic center in the Rhode island area -- one that caters to a different clientele. It's called Psychic Kitty and its aim is to keep pets healthy.

The holistic pet center in South Kingstown, run by two sisters, offers a full array of gourmet health foods and therapies that cater to all pets. There are some things there for humans, too. There's a pet communicator on board that claims to be able to help your furry friend work through some behavior or personality issues.

"We've had people bring in cats, dogs, rabbits and one girl brought in a rat," said Ruth Blecharczyk, manager of Psychic Kitty.

A rat?

"Rats are very intelligent," said Blecharczyk. "This is why they use them in all those psychological experiments."

But the pet spa isn't the only draw. There are herbal remedies for your pooch or feline and a variety of health food options.

"Pet foods ... commercial pet foods can contain such things as discarded rancid byproducts from the human food industry," said Blecharczyk. "We don't think this is good enough. Our animals deserve high quality foods. I did finally find a company that uses all human-approved USDA approved for human consumption ingredients." That includes frozen treats, such as liver shivers, and a frozen meat section.

"With a concentration on organ meats which have more nutrients," said Blecharczyk. "We have one food that's 95 percent organic ... it's certified organic. There's another food that's totally grain free. Some animals just don't do well with grains. They're gluten intolerant. Psychic Kitty offers quite the variety to suit your pets needs and tastes. But there's something for the pets' owners, too.

"The next thing is to pamper ourselves and so we do offer a wide range of gifts, trying to look for something fun and eclectic type of offerings for people who have pets or who know people who have pets," said Blecharczyk.
